Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
When a bus driver takes a break from his route, a very unlikely volunteer springs up to take his place-a pigeon! But you've never met one like this before. As he pleads, wheedles, and begs his way through the book, children will love being able to answer back and decide his fate. In his hilarious picture book debut, popular cartoonist Mo Willems perfectly captures a preschooler's temper tantrum.

2 out of 5 stars Too weird for my kids   November 17, 2008
My kids just didn't get this book. There is no plot and the story (if you can call it that) is just too strange to enjoy. You don't feel sympathetic toward the pigeon, who seems to be talking to himself in a kind of psychotic/obsessive-compulsive rant. The illustrations are fun but I can't recommend this book when there are so many other wonderful children's books to be discovered.

5 out of 5 stars More Trouble For That Pigeon   November 16, 2008

The Pigeon has enamored both my three year old daughter and me since we discovered this series earlier in the year. Author Mo Willems is a true genius; he manages to connect with toddlers and preschoolers every time, in every new book. Because the Pigeon sounds and reacts just like they do, the Pigeon series attracts and then keeps a child's attention through many, many readings. These books quickly become permanent favorites.

In DON'T LET THE PIGEON DRIVE THE BUS!, the Pigeon wants (you guessed it) to drive a bus. However, the bus driver has already left the scene and warned the young reader that they should not let the Pigeon drive. The Pigeon then weedles, rants, cajoles, and stomps, trying to convince the reader to let him do what he wants. My youngest loves that the Pigeon speaks directly to her, and she loves answering him right back. Believe me, with my daughter in charge, that Pigeon is not going to drive the bus.

DON'T LET THE PIGEON DRIVE THE BUS! also teaches the lesson that you can't always have what you want. If my child is asking for something she can't have, I just reminder of this story, and she understands. She doesn't like it, but she understands.

Books that get kids to interact with the story are pure gold and give children a life long love of reading. I personally thank Mo Willems for this series; it has made a lasting impression on my daughter and on me. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding!   November 10, 2008
This outstanding childrens book definitely surprised me when I read it the first time. I was expecting great pictures and maybe a cute story, but when I opened the book and began to read I really was able to see what the "hype" about this book was. Being a college student in the elementary education field, I am always challeged to find ways to use different books in my classroom. I found that this book is great for readying to a child, but when paired with a puppet, children are given the opportunity to interact with the characters from the story allowing for a more personal learning experience. I absolutely will recommend this book to many.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book   September 15, 2008
My 2 year old really likes this book. We have actually purchased a few other pigeon books, but this is our favorite. The humor might be aimed at an older age group, but our 2 year old enjoys the funny voices we add to the story. This is a fun book to read outloud.

5 out of 5 stars Children (and Adults) Love This Book!   September 8, 2008
This book is hilarious! I chaperone my daughter's kindergarten class on a field trip to the library. The librarian read this book aloud to class with a very entertaining voice. The children's interest never ceased with this book. We all laughed and screamed "DON'T LET THE PIGEON DRIVE THE BUS!!!!" The pigeon will do anything to drive the bus. This is a must have book. I purchased this book and it is one of our family's favorites. The book is so well written that the reader is encouraged to get into character, so to speak. This book is great for young children. My daughter is now in the second grade and this book is way too easy for her, but she enjoys reading it to younger kids. I would recommend this book for reading ages 2 - 5. But entertaining for all ages!
